“Little Ending”
By: Charles Wright “Little Ending,” is a short poem written by Charles Wright. This poem is unique from his other works because of it’s compact and brief duration. The title fits this work perfectly, describing the length and the theme of the poem. Like other literature by Wright, this poem reflects on the journey after life. While this poem is only eight lines, it contains a great amount of symbolism and subtle meaning. Through this short poem, Wright is able convey deep meaning behind each line. While this poem is short and lacks vast detail, it contains symbolism which if read carefully transforms this work as a whole. The main theme of this poem is the after life. “Someone will take our hand, someone will give us refuge, Circling left or circling right.” The syntax and structure of this poem further develop that idea. One of the biggest elements used in this work is the overall flow of the lines. The structure of the poem appeals to the message that is being expressed. Like other poems written by Charles Wright, readers are left with a sense of conjecture. Contemplating what the true meaning of the poem is about. While the overall theme can be observed from the surface of each poem, one must truly explore deep to discover the hidden message. From analyzing “Little Ending,” there is much to be found within the eight lines. Much of the work can be left to individual interpretation. Which adds to the enigma of this poem.

I liked your response to the poem. I also liked how you said the meaning depends on the person reading it.
